REMODELING SERVICES & PAINTING services in san antonio

During this time, we have had to social distance and stay indoors more often then not, which gives us a lot of free time, especially with the ones we live with. My original plan was to live on campus for university, however, I did not feel safe considering the circumstances so I have had to subject myself to time around my family. In all honesty, it has been better then I would have suspected.

Although some times are mind-numbingly boring, my family has picked up on various activities to fill the time, specifically TV shows we all enjoy. One of these shows includes the Mandolorian, a Disney+ series featured in the Star Wars universe. The wonderful thing about this show is that it is able to interest most generations; my parents grew up with the original trilogy of Star Wars and my sister and I grew up with the Prequels and Sequels. We have this as a mutual interest, something we all enjoy and can be treated as a bridge between generations. There is nothing more fun then having your older, wiser parents geek out over a series you love too.

Another show we have all indulged in is the Great British Baking Show, which is a bit more surprising to me. I had heard about the show before, but been hesitant due to how strange it seemed (I mean come on, they're baking in a tent), however, it is brilliant. Humorous, witty, and quirky, it is a show really anyone can enjoy, and a joy to watch as a foreigner. It is an excellent light-hearted escape from our current reality; just some amateur baking by average joes like the rest of us. Although the current season is over, my family would always gather around the TV on Fridays to watch the newest episode of the Great British Baking Show and cheer for our favorite contestant.

Outside of television, we are simply in each other's presence more, which is pleasant by itself. Instead of isolating ourselves in our rooms, we gather in the living room and idly chatter. My suggestion to those who are struggling to tolerate the people they're currently trapped with is to pick up a remote and find a show you mutually enjoy, or simply do work/activities around them. You may find it makes the situation a bit more bearable and entertaining!

First and foremost, it’s important to choose your office space wisely. Formal dining rooms and guest bedrooms are usually the first choice, as they’re easy to convert into offices. You may also be desiring a quiet and isolated space, which may include installing a door or putting up a new wall. That’s where we come in! Thick, soundproof doors and other renovations are a doable feat for your new office, which can be installed at a general price of $6,000-$9,000.

Also beneficial, offices with windows and open areas I always find preferable, as they yield relaxing atmospheres and let you keep up with the time of day. One of the issues with closed spaces is the lack of natural light, which can throw off your time sense and circadian rhythm.

If you don’t have it bought already, it’s also important to choose your office furniture wisely, to meet the standards of beneficial ergonomics. By following these guidelines, you can avoid wrist pain, bad posture, and eye strain.

Underestimating the expense of a project is a major roadblock for many customers; like most things in life, nothing well made comes cheap. For example, if you are looking to remodel the entirety of your bathroom, prices can range anywhere from $8,000 to $30,000--and you will receive the quality you pay for.

Adopting a new office space

In our business our goal is try to reduce the stress that oftentimes comes with changes happening in their living/working spaces.  We do this by ensuring we’re managing the crews and materials being used on your project effectively and with great care.  We also work hard to make corrections quickly and responsively to the owner’s needs.  The work environment is kept tidy and we focus on using protective gear and health standards for everyone’s safety.

In my family we’ve been seeking ways to find joy through not only family interactions but also encouraging time for personal care by having alone-time space.  Whether we’re out on a nearby, mini-vacation, or at home, finding time by oneself can be just as healing as spending quality family-time.  One of our frequent favorite activities has been experiencing drive-in theatre movies; for the first time for our adult-children.  If you haven’t been to the drive-in for awhile, I highly recommend it! We’ve also enjoyed witnessing some amazing celestial events: the Comet Neowise and the Perseid Meteor Showers.

All of us here at Renovate Paint and Design hope that you find ways to have fun, experience or learn something new, and find ways to connect with others.  We will get through this time and end up stronger than before if we are mindful about how we spend this time and how we treat others.  Remember, one of the best ways to care for others is to ensure you’re keeping safety protocols: wear a mask, keep a safe distance, and wash your hands before touching your face. Please let us know how we can help you in your personal/family spaces to make them places that bring more joy to your life, and/or keep you better protected.

Thanks Corner

I hope that while you are reading this that you have and are seeking joy in your life.  Now, more than ever, we have to be purposeful in pursuing activities, attitudes and a life that edifies not only ourselves, but ways to help others we encounter. Whether it’s people we see in the rare in-person contact (be sure you’re safe distancing and keeping those masks on!), through  video-calls/conferences, or phone calls, be mindful about how you're interacting. Everyone is on edge about something right now, which is true I suppose all of the time, but these are extra-difficult times, so let’s try to be more considerate towards one another.

It’s important to consider all factors of your remodeling dream, such as the type of tile you desire (which differ vastly in price) or the wood you want to have installed (which again, differs depending on the type). Every little detail will have a price tag on it, and we understand that that can be overwhelming, so take the time to talk out your vision with your contractor, like Renovate Paint and Design, and trust that they have your best interest in mind.  We will sit down and design the elements that go into updating kitchens and baths.  Or if you have a desire for a patio cover, deck, sunroom, or screened-in-porch, we can always help. We look forward to helping you create something beautiful in your home.

Turning inspiration into REALITY

Recently, I visited a home built in 1935.  I spoke with the young couple and then proceeded to look at their newly purchased home.  The home had asbestos shingles for siding and painted wood surfaces for everything else.  The first thing I noticed were bubbles forming underneath the latex paint all over the home.  When I opened a bubble, I found that the home originally was painted with an oil-based paint.  Given the age of the home, there is over an 80% chance that it has lead-based paint.

So, what can be done?  According to the EPA you should not disturb lead-based paint or asbestos siding, however all the latex paint must be removed.  In this case an abatement company would have to come in and do this work.  I am guessing $50,000 later the home would be ready for painting.  When thinking about purchasing an older home the phrase “Buyer Beware” has many dimensions.

In the age of COVID-19, most everything that could be moved online, has been online, most notably school and work. We’re constantly glued to our computer screens; absorbed in zoom calls and mountains of homework or busywork of any kind. We no longer go out to hang with friends, we video chat them instead. Churches and other social groups have also moved online, so it’s on the very rare occasion that we get to see someone outside our immediate family in person.

It’s really no surprise, with all this online activity, that a good amount of people are taking unused spaces and transforming them into office areas, and you might be considering it too! But before jumping right into designing a new office, make sure to explore the best options, to ensure productivity and comfort.

A bridge between GENERATIONS

  1. In a medium bowl, mix together cocoa, white sugar, and vegetable oil. Beat in eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla. Combine the flour, baking powder, and salt; stir into the cocoa mixture. Cover dough, and chill for at least 4 hours.
  2. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Line cookie sheets with parchment paper. Roll dough into one inch balls. I like to use a number 50 size scoop. Coat each ball in confectioners' sugar before placing onto prepared cookie sheets.
  3. Bake in preheated oven for 10 to 12 minutes. Let stand on the cookie sheet for a minute before transferring to wire racks to cool.

Drawing inspiration for a project is key, it can help give you focus and meet the home improvement goal you’ve got your mind set on. However, it is equally as important to maintain realistic expectations and be conscious of the time and cost your dream job will take.

Although you may flip on the TV, or through a magazine, and see a kitchen remodel that you absolutely adore, it’s important to remember that channels like HGTV, Home and Garden, and others, advertises home improvement and remodeling as a breezy occupation that doesn’t take much time. They simply show you snippets of the actual work that is needed to be put into those jobs; like most television, it is romanticized. That’s not to say you shouldn’t draw inspiration from HGTV, because I’ll admit some of their designs are brilliant, however, don’t invest in a project and expect it to be as simple as making pie.
